Is there a way to change the code for CPUminer to work with stratum?

I tried using cpuminer, but I got an error, which brought me to the following page: Stackexchange dealing with problem. The post said it the miner did not work with stratum protocol. How would I change the code to work with the stratum protocol? Thanks.
