Bitcoin coin Block size issue [on hold]

Bitcoin block size is still 1MB and the original issue still persist even after BCH hard fork

If this is not fixed asap wont the btc popularity reduces to some other altcoin ? I dont understand why btc developers are not making this easy fix to simply increase the blocksize in btc? Also lets say if btc blocksize is increased to 2MB then wont it become exactly same as BCH ?
