Attempt to withdraw bitcoins from Bitstamp exchange account generates "failure to transfer"

When I attempt to withdraw bitcoins from Bitstamp exchange account it tells me that the transfer to the designated soft wallet has failed. I see no way to identify the address as a trusted receiver of transfer and no way to get Bitstamp to allow me to transfer my bitcoin out of the exchange through my account interface. I have made a support ticket but they take up to two weeks to respond with a cryptic one line response. What am I missing? I need to move these funds (as bitcoins - not trying to exchange to a fiat currency and withdraw that currency - just want to pay for something using the coin) out of the exchange. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
